Gas station manager fired for setting price to 69 cents

A California fuel station supervisor was fired after by accident setting the value of premium gasoline to simply 69 cents per gallon.

John Szczecina made the error at a Shell station within the Sacramento suburb of Rancho Cordova final Thursday.

“I seemed on the numbers and it was 69 cents a gallon,” resident Darryl Surita advised native CBS station KOVR final week. “So you already know what I did, I hit that button and it began pumping and the greenback signal simply stayed low.”

The fuel was speculated to price $6.99 per gallon, costing the station an estimated $16,000 in only a few hours, KOVR reported. Szczecina owned as much as the error.

“I put all three costs on there, besides the diesel. The final one sort of didn’t go. So, I simply took accountability for it and mentioned yeah it’s my fault,” Szczecina advised Bay Space ABC affiliate KGO.

Szczecina mentioned he’s fearful about getting sued by the station. Such a lawsuit could be unlikely to succeed as a result of staff are protected beneath the legislation in the event that they make a mistake whereas merely doing their job.

Fuel hasn’t price 69 cents per gallon since 1979, in response to the Division of Power.
