ST. PAUL, Minn. — St. Paul Public Colleges officers are drafting a brand new coverage to permit and encourage the Native American follow of smudging at colleges and occasions in Minnesota’s second-largest district.
Smudging is the cultural follow of burning sage or different sacred herbs for therapeutic and to cleanse the soul of detrimental ideas.
Smudging is already going down on a casual bases at some St. Paul colleges, however supporters need to develop an official coverage.
Supporters say it is a method to create a way of belonging for Native American college students who make up about 3.7% of the varsity district’s inhabitants.
