The donation was made after Charles met with two of the terrorist mastermind’s family members in London

Britain’s Prince Charles “personally secured” a donation of £1 million ($1.2 million) to his charity from the household of Osama bin Laden in 2013, The Instances reported on Sunday. The Prince of Wales has solely just lately been scrutinized for taking “luggage of money” from the Qatari royal household.

Charles “brokered the cost” after a personal assembly with Bakr and Shafiq bin Laden at his London residence of Clarence Home in October 2013, the paper’s sources claimed. Bakr and Shafiq are half-brothers of Osama Bin Laden, the Al-Qaeda chief and 9/11 mastermind who was shot lifeless by US particular forces in Pakistan two years earlier than the assembly.

In accordance with the Instances, Charles agreed to the donation regardless of objections from his employees and the Prince of Wales Charitable Basis (PWCF). Charles reportedly opted to not return the cash, as to take action would embarrass the brothers.

Prince Charles avoids probe

Nonetheless, PWCF Chairman Sir Ian Cheshire instructed the newspaper that every one 5 of the charity’s trustees “wholly” agreed to just accept the donation after listening to considerations. One other supply instructed The Guardian that the prince was not urged to return the cash, and disputed recommendations that he had personally brokered the deal.

There isn’t any suggestion that Bakr or Shafiq bin Laden have ever financed or been concerned in terrorism, The Instances identified.

The UK Charity Fee dropped an investigation final week into multi-million-pound donations made by the Qatari royal household to the PWCF. British media reported final month that Charles had obtained buying luggage full of money totaling over £2.5 million ($3.07 million) throughout conferences with Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber al Thani between 2011 and 2015. Al Thani served as Qatar’s prime minister between 2007 and 2013.

The Prince of Wales isn’t any stranger to controversy, and his relationship with the Bin Laden household has been questioned earlier than. After being launched to Bakr on the Oxford Centre of Islamic Research in 2000, Charles drew condemnation from the British press when he dined with Osama’s brother the next October, lower than a month after the 9/11 assaults.
